Drew Jurkofsky to Publish Research in SAE International Journal

Detroit, Michigan. I am proud to announce the April 14th release of a peer-reviewed technical paper to be published by the Society of Automotive Engineers.  “Accuracy of SUAS Photogrammetry for Use in Accident Scene Diagramming” describes the results of a cooperative research agreement between Unmanned Experts and the National Institute of Justice, which is investigating the utility of small unmanned aircraft systems for use in public safety applications.  The technical paper will be published in the August 2015 issue of the SAE International Journal of Transportation Safety and is available immediately at the link below:

This important research adds to the body of knowledge that law enforcement officials will use as they deploy this new technology and show it is defensible in the courtroom.  Our research aims to combine low-cost SUAS technology with high-speed image processing applications to collect forensic-quality scene information, speed up investigations and incident clearance, and reduce the exposure of law enforcement officers, responders and the public to hazardous roadside conditions.  The cooperative research grant is formally entitled NIJ 2013-IJ-CX-K008 “Using Airborne Photogrammetry from Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems to Enable Faster Traffic Incident Clearance.”

I will give a presentation and formally introduce the technical paper on April 22nd at the SAE 2015 World Congress and Exhibition in Detroit, Michigan.
